Chinese Herbal Medicine

Address your ailments with the right herbal formulation.

Chinese Herbal Medicine outperforms standard care in many respects and earns its place among other treatments as the most widely practiced herbal tradition in the world. Trained practitioners study a rich and sophisticated system of diagnosis to address a variety of conditions.

According to the oldest texts, herbalists employ these medicines for three reasons: to alleviate specific complaints (the lowest level of treatment), balance the body’s internal disharmony (the middle level), and promote long life (the highest level).

You will appreciate and enjoy the care that I take with my patients to ensure that we create herbal formulations customized to address the complexities of your whole health.

Enhance your body’s ability to heal.

Successful herbal strategies focus on supporting and maintaining health in addition to fighting disease. In other words, herbs are not prescribed for “fixing” you, but rather for nurturing your intrinsic capacity for healing.

My treatments provide personalized herbal formulas during your consultation, as well as lifestyle and dietary recommendations.

A large part of our work together will focus on helping you to learn to listen and respond to your body’s communication signals.

This emphasis on self-care encourages you to develop a deep connection with your own body.

Herbal supplements come in many different forms.

Usually, they are dried and ground into powdered form and later made into pills, capsules, liquid tinctures, or tea.

Other popular use methods include skin applications in ointments, gels, cream, or lotion form. Sometimes herbal baths work the best.

The practice of using herbal supplements dates back thousands of years. Today, the use of herbal supplements is common among American consumers.

Access to herbal medicine is at your convenience.

You don’t need to visit an herbal shop. Now, herbal consultations are even more accessible than ever with Telemedicine.

You don’t have to leave your house if you are too sick to come to my office. Instead, you can schedule your consultation remotely and have your herbs conveniently shipped to you.

During the initial consultation, we will discuss all your reasons for seeking herbal treatment. We use this discussion to develop a summary of your body’s systems, medical and social history, diet, and lifestyle.

Here are the steps to follow.

To prepare for your visit, and so that I may have the clearest picture of your health, please refrain from drinking beverages or eating foods that may discolor your tongue (e.g., blueberries or candy) for at least two hours before your appointment.

Examination of your pulse and tongue is an essential part of the consultation as well. There also may be palpation of your abdomen and limbs that can help us make an accurate diagnosis.

Following your consultation, I will prescribe one or two herbal formulas for your specific condition. You can often take your medicine home with you if you come to see me in my office. If I don’t have it in stock, however, you may always pick it up later or opt to have it mailed to you.

Whereas shipping your formula is certainly a great option, please be aware that shipping times vary, and there are postage and handling fees to consider as well.

Herbal medicine is part of an integrated approach.

I integrate Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture modalities into my regular practice, but you do not have to receive acupuncture to get herbs.

Many patients do choose to combine their herbal consultation with acupuncture treatment. Integrating both is highly recommended if you can come to my office.
